As part of my art history degree, I was lucky enough to study at the British School in Rome for six months. Despite that, I still needed to go back to Rome several times to make sure that things were as I remembered…
My main research books were:
Love Food, Love Rome by Diane Seed. Recipes, stunning photographs, information on where to eat and where to shop for food.
Footsteps by Richard Holmes. It’s subtitled Adventures of a Romantic Biographer, and is a great insight into a biographer’s life as well as being very readable and informative on Mary Wollstonecraft, Robert Louis Stevenson, Gerard de Nerval and of course, Shelley.
