I first came across cue scripts at drama school where one of the directors wanted to try out his theory about how Shakespeare was performed in Elizabethan times. This was Patrick Tucker, who went to write several books on the subject including the Secrets of Acting Shakespeare (Theatre Arts 2001).

I also drew from an amazing talk given by Ben Crystal at the Bath Festival of Literature. If you get the chance, go and see him perform, he’s brilliant. I was so excited by his talk I went all trembly when I asked him to sign my copy of his book, Shakespeare on Toast (Icon Books 2008).
